Katilette Discusses The Loss Of Her Mother And Breast Cancer Awareness

For those fans of the Shaytards, one of the highlights is Mommytard, also known as Katilette. She and her husband Shay are both great role models as parents and successful Youtubers, but sometimes we forget that the people we watch on YouTube, television and the movies are in fact real people. They have feelings and laugh and cry just like the rest of us. In this video Katilette discusses the loss of her mother when she was 11 years old from breast cancer.

I think this must have been a tough video for her to get through and at one point I thought she might start crying, but being the trooper she is, she continued on.

Denial and repression of feelings is difficult for many and bringing those feelings back to the surface can be painful. I can see why she has had difficulty dealing with the loss of her own Mom so many years ago and she seems to be in a place now where she can begin to deal with them. Cancer is obviously a terrible disease that affects too many individuals and families and even the goodwill of others trying to help beat back the disease can be hard for some to deal with.

As Katilette says, although October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, October is both her mother's birthday and the month she lost her. By taking even some small steps like making this video, she is showing a certain maturity and strength and moving to bring her own support to help prevent the loss she has experienced.

My own mother has had a couple of bouts with breast cancer and I am lucky to have her with us as a cancer survivor, but too many others are not as lucky. Katilette is donating some money to a great cause and mentioned that her sister Sadie is donating proceeds from her own business to Bead Artists Against Breast Cancer. If you want to take a look at some of the earrings her sister is offering, check out sadiesbeads.artfire.com - I think that is an awesome way for her to help out with a very worthwhile cause that hits close to home for many.

I'll be tweeting this blog post because of Katilette's heartfelt and genuine message.
